Crushing every opposition in
by Amanda Buys’
Galatians 5:1 “1 IN [this] freedom Christ has made us free [and completely liberated us]; stand fast then, and do not be hampered and held ensnared and submit again to a yoke of slavery [which you have once put off].”
The Bible declares that Christ has made us free and we are to stand fast in it.
Colossians 1 : 13 ”13 [The Father] has delivered and drawn us to Himself out of the control and the dominion of darkness and has transferred us into the kingdom of the Son of His love,”
God has delivered us from the power of darkness and He has translated us into the Kingdom of His Son. We are delivered because of what Jesus did on the Cross at Calvary. We are set free. Positionally speaking, we have been made free from sin, death, poverty, diseases and satanic bondages. Practically speaking, we have to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling.
Phil. 2: 12 “12 Therefore, my dear ones, as you have always obeyed [my suggestions], so now, not only [with the enthusiasm you would show] in my presence but much more because I am absent, work out (cultivate, carry out to the goal, and fully complete) your own salvation with reverence and awe and trembling (self-distrust, with serious caution, tenderness of conscience, watchfulness against temptation, timidly shrinking from whatever might offend God and discredit the name of Christ).”
However, the responsibility to stand in this liberty squarely rests on us. The words, “stand fast” is a military term meaning “to stand firm”, not to let anything push or stagger you. Not to be moved, not to be intimidated, not to let the territory under your charge be taken away, is standing fast.
The problem the Church has is not a problem of liberty or freedom, it is a problem of standing; how to maintain her stand in liberty.
The devil should be the one to always run from us. He should be afraid of a Christian and never the other way round. Yet he is tormenting and afflicting people, because they do not know how to stand against him. The defeated foe is supposed to be under our feet.
Enforcing authority does not mean we are creating a new authority. It is exercising an authority that has been given to us – a victory that has been won. We are only enforcing the victory of Calvary over every opposition of the gates of hell. This is what we are called to do. We are not called to create a new authority but to enforce and use what has already been given to us.
What exactly happened on the Cross must be well understood by every believer in order to exercise effective authority over the devil.
Our victory is based upon the knowledge of the victory at Calvary. Your defeating the enemy is based on what happened there. When you insist on Christ’s victory, reminding satan of Calvary, he will have to surrender.
Ever since his defeat in Heaven and since his defeat on the cross, satan has been longing to settle scores with the Almighty God, but he has no means of doing it. Therefore, he tries to hurt all those who belong to God and who are very dear to Him. This is because in hurting them, he is indirectly hurting the Heart of the Father.
It is therefore left for us believers to know how to handle satan. We should know how to crush him and paralyze him completely.
