Often the ice caves are mostly showing blue ice but we were lucky to have the low sun shining outside and plenty of light reflecting in.
Last weekend in Kötlujökull glazier.
The dark streaks represent volcano ash from old eruptions in the area. The oldest ice is probably from 1000 years ago, layers of snow pressed into a solid ice-block.
